This is a book cover that I designed for Perfume, a story of murder. This story takes place in 18th century France. The scent of the original perfume in the book was created from roses but, the main character was dying to create the ultimate perfume and wanted to elevate the scent. So, he started to kill women and collect their unique odors to create perfumes. Since this movie takes place in the 18th century I used a vintage look for my illustration. I illustrated a rose perfume bottle to show both the perfume and ingredients from the story. I also incorporated a knife to show a hint of murder. The background is a silhouette of a perfume bottle and the knife and flowers add depth to the design. I used a creamy color to describe a vintage paper and a red color to show blood. I decided to go for an elegant style to reflect the storyline which is one of high class and refinement. The reason I chose this design theme was because the main character and killers intention was to make the ultimate perfume.
